For Mary and Darrin, the nightmare was supposed to be over. But when their six-year-old daughter, Susie, becomes obsessed with a makeshift tent in her bedroom, the uneasy memories of the World Circus resurface. Mary still secretly longs for the Big Top’s dark allure, but Darrin is haunted by the blood they left behind—unaware that he brought the circus home with him in the form of a single, forgotten tarot card: the Hanging Clown.

From the scraps of paper and greeting cards, the World Circus has knitted itself back together, and its new star is Susie. Enticed by the Ace of Buckets while she sleeps, Susie is being groomed for a gruesome promotion. When her parents finally cross back into the impulsive, seductive world of the circus to save her, they find their daughter has been transformed. She is the Page of Buckets—and she has a terrifying flair for the art of the maim.
